Preaching Program in Jharkhand Forest!
Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu had been to the Jarkhand forest twice, once when he came back from Gaya, after having offered the sraddha ceremony to His father and another time when He was going to Vrindavana. In these two times He performed amazing pastimes, and of course we must know that this place is not an ordinary place! Kanai Natshala, where Mahaprabhu saw Sri Krsna for the first time is unbelievably beautiful, on the banks of the Ganges, in which the shores are decorated with big white rocks, all this composing a beautiful sight. We were travelling in the Jharkhand forest and we saw this very beautiful place with so many Banyan trees, mountains and lakes. In ISKCON Kanai Natshala we had a nice time doing kirtan for Sri Sri Radha Kanai Lala, Sriman Mahaprabhu and Lord Nrsimhadev ,and listening to the ecstatic katha about the pastimes of the Lord that took place there.
We had a preaching program for 2 nights in 2 small cities of Jharkhand forest, on the border of West Bengal and Bihar. According to Radha Damodar prabhu, the organizer of this program, in these 2 places (Tinpahar and Baharwa) ISKCON devotees never performed nagara-sankirtana. We were 17 adults and 7 kids, from 4:00 to 6:30 pm we performed nagar- sankirtana and after that we had stage program. The kids (9 years old onwards) performed nice kirtan on the stage, western devotees shared their experience with Krsna consciousness and Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s mission. Indian devotees spoke about their concern about cow killing (these places are surrounded by Muslims and some hindus who are selling their cows for slaughterhouses) and the importance of ISKCON’s work for the welfare of the world.
During Nagar-sankirtana we sold many Bhagavad Gitas in Hindi and during the stage program we just sat down on the stage with boxes filled with Bhagavad-Gitas, meanwhile people were coming and taking Gitas till there was none left, in the end of the program we distributed almost 200 Bhagavad Gitas and many small books. The kids became so fired up and they distributed many books also. We left that place and returned to Sridham Mayapur but the Bhagavad-Gita remained there, this is the real meaning of Brhat mrdanga!
These two places are far and the access is difficult since the roads are full of holes and by train is not so easy. Despite the tapasya, we were very very happy to give the holy name to these far places. The mountains of Jharkhand are full of ‘iron ore` and these places have been exploited by big companies and the government, people there work by carrying stones. We can think for a moment that ‘the companies and government are exploiting them’ but actually the hope of sense gratification or the attachment for sense gratification is binding them in this horrible work; it was hard to see ‘Stone Machines’ built around ancient Banyan trees. Social issues in Kali Yuga are out of the question, such network of Maya is there, we can realize, there is no solution but Hari Nama kirtanam. Nevertheless, preaching in Jharkhand forest was such a pleasing experience that we want to repeat it again and again, actually when we look at the pictures we miss the happiness we had there, doing a small contribution for Lord Caitanya’s mission.
Please see the pictures below and we encourage you to join us and also to donate your extra money for book distribution in those places.
